Here's Three Resolutions to Maintain and Improve your Eye Health
By Derek Simon - January 9, 2024
Alas, 2024 is here, and many of us are feeling reflective and inspired. There’s something about the top of the year that feels like a new page or chapter in our lives and it’s common to make resolutions. If you haven’t declared your resolutions for the year or would like a little assistance, Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank has provided some that we hope will prove "eye-opening” and beneficial to you. Stress Management Succumbing to stress happens easier than we realize, especially with the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Did you know mismanagement of stress could negatively impact your eyesight? The impact of stress on your eyes can manifest in the form of blurriness, eye-twitching, and eye redness. Mindful ways of managing stress can look like going for a walk, meditating, yoga, or doing breathing exercises. Healthy Diet with Adequate Hydration In a lot of ways, the well-being of our eyes can be attributed to what we eat and drink. Additionally, staying hydrated can prevent your body and eyes from becoming dehydrated. Be sure to drink plenty of water daily and make sure your meals are balanced. Examples of eating a balanced diet can look like having salads and fruit more frequently to ensure your body is receiving the vitamins and nutrients that fully support the health of your eyes.
Schedule Your Yearly Exam You may be thinking, “My eyes are fine. There is no need to get them examined”. On the contrary, getting an eye exam gives optometrists the opportunity to detect early signs of diseases. With disease or trauma to the cornea accounting for about 12% of all blindness in the United States, it’s important to take proactive steps towards keeping your eyes healthy. With early detection of diseases, you now have a chance to take preventative measures to ensure your eyes don’t succumb to irreversible damage. Embracing these eye-opening resolutions can help ensure that your eyes are healthy and continue to contribute to your well-being. Turning these resolutions into habits will serve you well beyond 2024. The staff at Rocky Mountains Lion Eye Bank are championing your visual well-being and wish you a Happy New Year!
